    McDojo or No?

Does this look like a McDojo?

    This is their other site:

I ask because in NYC everyone is trying to make a buck, and many martial arts studios/dojos/ and often market themselves towards white collar wannabes or privileged house wives, and only offer watered down instruction because there clientele often don't know any better. (i.e. there was a whole white collar boxing movement here for a while, where Manhattan boxing gyms would train stockbrokers etc. to box and they'd compete against each other. But they weren't actually taught good boxing, and I know twice some young kids from a Bronx gym with just as much experience beat their ass).

I am primarily interested in self defense, which I have 6 moths to learn before moving overseas to teach in a dangerous area/school. I have been taking random classes, but I need to commit to a steady gym, so I want one that is easy to get to, but that will offer legit training and get me as ready as I possibly can be given my time frame. Thus, I need some insight into choosing a good spot. I've read the McDojo threads, and honestly, I can't determine if this one if legit or not. There seemed to be a decent amount of women there, and a few middle age guys, which would suggest to me that I should be wary. But they say they train in aliveness which is what most people tell me to look for.

Yes. To the definitive negative. Van Over reminds me of an Amway salesman.

AT least you talked to them and actually can attest to their sales tactics.
