You mean for taller people to do or to do against taller people?

It's all relative, there are not really any hard or fast rules. It's a mistake to limit one's study of Judo because of judo "folk wisdom".

I'm 5'7" tall with 30 inch inseam (that means short legs!). I've thrown a lot of people with Uchi Mata in shiai and randori, when in fact, my tokui waza has always been various forms of Seoi Nage (folk wisdom, LOL).

Here I fixed that for you, LOL.

You going to be in Edmonton? I won't (saving vacation time for nationals), but I'll have 3 students there, 2 senior, one junior.

Unfortunately not this year. I just got back from a month-long business trip, I am out of shape and not particularly interested in travel just now.

Too bad ! Get back in shape and plan on going to nationals in Vancouver ! I'll be there coaching and enjoying the plethora of great food available.

I love Hiza Guruma. Nobody every used it so they had no defense, LOL. Left from a right grip leaves people wondering what happened most of the time. It's all in the double clutch, or "dynamic delay" as Judoka UK would call it.

Hiza Guruma might make a comeback as a shiai throw. The most common counter and it's greatest weakness (grabbing the leg) is no longer available.

I've considered the same thing, and told my students. I've hammered them with HG for years, made them train it, made up grip/move throw/grip/throw combinations that will work for them, and still, nobody is stepping up,LOL. I was rarely if ever countered with the leg grab counter (Kuchiki Daoshi or Kibisu Gaeshi) in any case, but I did use those two to save my bacon quite a few times.

HG gets no respect ! Maybe it's harder than it seems ?
