I never go on a motorcycle trip without my collapsible baton in my pocket after the sword killing I witnessed (guy pissed off the mafia). Shuangjiegun (AKA Nunchaku) are legal as well and sometimes fights break out between youth gangs, who also wield knives and staves, machetes or swords, etc. But I have only seen guns here twice and both were home-made hunting muskets in the mountains.

Consequently, it is a very safe country to live in - unless you get hit by someone on the street, breathe the air in the big cities, drink baby formula (or water in many places), speak out against the government, **** with the mafia, get into a bar fight (20-1 fights common), etc. But you weren't going to do any of that, right?
Those crazy Chinese. It's like they think firearms are more dangerous than truncheons.
Any more info on the legality of swords? Because every touristy gift shop I visited had jian and dao by the score for sale when last I was in China. Do swords only become questionable if they're of a certain rigidity or sharpness or some such?

It's probably more that swords are only considered dangerous if they are not made of Chinese metal. Or it could just be like it is in the states and they're legal to own, but not to carry. The real question is people actually still use swords as weapons??

If I had to kill someone, I'd rather use a steak knife than most Chinese swords.

Does anyone know the legality of three section staves? Because I'm thinking of starting to carry one.
    You know, for self defense.

Dunno, but isn't that two ways to hit yourself on the head rather than just one?
