    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Winning from turtle

I figured we could use a thread of people winning from one of those positions you really just shouldn't be winning from.

To kick it off I offer up this Freestyle Judo victory.

Not sure if this counts for what you want since the choke is usually initiated from a different position, but Dion Watts is semi-famous for this:

Baseball bat style choke finished from the bottom of turtle.

Holy crap that is awesome and certainly counts.
Question though what kept the top guy from spinning out of it at the beginning?

Most people don't seem to realize they are in danger until it's too late.
The ones that do frequently try to spin the wrong way.
The ones that try to spin the right way he usually finishes at is if he were finishing a seio nage by digging his shoulder down on that side so that the mat acts to block their escape.

You can kind of see that in this video:

He digs his shoulder down really hard at the end. If the guy had spun around to the correct side to escape it would have thrown him over on his back the same way and he still would have gotten finished.

This is also the guy I learned the choke from indirectly. He used it on one of the guys I train with.

    C'mon Derek!

I don't get how the dude in the original vid won, and also why he was screaming like he'd kicked Derek's ass. Anybody?

    Armbar FTW (@1.35)
Considered in the abstract the boxing ring is an altar of sorts, one of those legendary spaces where the laws of a nation are suspended: inside the ropes, during an officially regulated three-minute round, a man may be killed by his opponent's hands but he cannot be legally murdered. Boxing inhabits a sacred space predating civilization; or, to use D.H. Lawrence's phrase, before God was love. If it suggests a savage ceremony or a rite of atonement it also suggests the futility of such gestures. For what possible atonement is the fight waged if it must shortly be waged again... and again? The boxing match is the very image, the more terrifying for being so stylized, of mankind's collective aggression; its ongoing historical madness.
