Are you guys doing hard sparring leading up to the tournament? That helps.

Yeah full contact once a week. I think I'm gonna go and crosstrain with a couple people at an MMA/thai gym a few times as well.

This would take you pretty far. We had some people go to a SanShou tournament down in Orlando a couple years ago. The previous years it was a small Kung Fu tournament. But I guess word got around and a couple MMA schools decided to send some kickboxers to compete. They ended up wiping the floor with everyone. The brought a whole different level of intensity and training to the tournament. It woke a few people up.

    Was it this one?

I'm planning to do the ICMAC in St. Louis if my work schedule turns out right. Before xingyi I was doing a solid amount of boxing w/ full contact for ~1.5 years. up until that point id dabbled in a lot of different stuff like Baji, TKD, Thai, and i did wrestling in high school so i have some full contact experience, even though it's kind of disjointed. I dont really know what to expect from it all, although i guess i have to synthesize it all. I'm confident in my punching, sprawls, single/double leg takedowns, and kicks to the midsection. But i noticed Sanda has a lot of throws, which im **** at, and high kicks, which i can defend/counter against ok but not do with much power either.

So, I'm kind of at an impasse whether to try and cover up my weaknesses or just polish my strengths.

I can't see that video because I'm at work, but it was the ICMAC in Orlando. As long as you are getting good sparring rounds in prior to the competition, and are competing in your weight class, you should be fine.

    No need to be sorry.

As far as polishing your strengths and covering your weaknesses. If its Sanda and you know there are going to be throws you should incorporate throws in your sparring.
