It would depend on who won the subsequent war over Texas.

The Union has survived 11 states trying to secede, what makes you think anything has changed.

I think it would be a long, hard fight, but the Sinaloa Cartel/Southern Baptist alliance would ultimately come out on top IMHO.

The one with Chuck Norris on his side, of course.

The 1000 years of darkness statement all of a sudden makes a lot more sense.

I see similar petitions of other states (https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions) but except for Texas (46,534 at this moment) signataries are low in number.

Well I think it's only fair to give Alaska back to Canada

We actually got it from Russia I think Russia had colonized it prior to Canada officially became a country.

I figured this deserves a more in-depth response.

JNP notwithstanding, I hate Texas. I was stationed at Ft. Hood, which is just far enough from everything that you can't (technically) get to anything cool without paperwork. I'm sure there are parts of Texas that are actually quite nice, but I didn't get to see them. My sister lives there now and claims Austin is great, but I'm not sure I believe her as I've never seen a part of Texas that didn't suck. As a matter of fact, I liked Arizona and Iraq better than I liked Texas. At least there there wasn't the awful humidity.

But the real reason I wouldn't mind seeing Texas go hasta la bye bye? Education. Texas is one of the three states with the largest population of school-age children. The others are New York and California. However for various reason the California books tend to stay in California and the New Yorker's don't have much in the way of special requests so Texas gets a disproportionate say in what textbooks say across the US due to the way economies of scale work and unfortunately, the Texas School Board is not real good about that whole "science" thing.

The secession of Texas might limit many textbooks designed for Texas to Texas and as a result maybe the rest of us could have our science back.

I love Texas, but I don't think I'd want to live here if it were to somehow defy constitutional law and secede. Here are a few rational reasons.
#1. It did not work out too well the last time.
#2. 4 a.m. beer runs to Louisiana would require a passport.
#3. The words President Perry make my skin crawl.
