Dude, you are focusing way too hard on the "why". I just said I thought this was a good question for a thread like this and may be useful to me later. I'm thinking if I got hit with some nasty virus or just plain wanted to start fresh.

In IT WHY is the most important question. As most of the time the person your dealing with has just enough knowledge to do **** them selves up. Especially people who once knew what they where doing but have no grasp on how things have progressed. Get use to asking people why and finding out what it is they want to actually accomplish and not feed them useless information.

Reformatting not a great way to get rid of a virus.

Also when you go to put back on your data your likely to just reinstall the virus anyways.

You will want to back these up. I use to keep all and I mean all of my school work in my goggle docs and I would make sure I e-mailed everything to myself to have a 2nd back up out in the cloud.

No, just your data. You can back up your Windows "profile" I personally like to do this but its far from needed most of the time.
