In IT WHY is the most important question. As most of the time the person your dealing with has just enough knowledge to do **** them selves up. Especially people who once knew what they where doing but have no grasp on how things have progressed. Get use to asking people why and finding out what it is they want to actually accomplish and not feed them useless information.
Reformatting not a great way to get rid of a virus.
Let me introduce you to the Boot-Sector virus.
Also when you go to put back on your data your likely to just reinstall the virus anyways.
No, I posted a link earlier on how to do it go back and find it.
You will want to back these up. I use to keep all and I mean all of my school work in my goggle docs and I would make sure I e-mailed everything to myself to have a 2nd back up out in the cloud.
The big three you have to do at the same time, mother board, cpu, and memory.
although you have to make sure you have a decent enough power supply before hitting the big 3. Its also kind of a waste to do it piece mill as most modern mother boards have a lot of the individual components you had to once buy.
Example here is a motherboard with built in video that includes HDMI for $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157303
I am not endorsing this particular board its just an example that there are plenty of Mother Boards out there with a decent enough built in video/audio/networking.
You can probably find one of the newest generation chip sets with HDMI for ~$40
No, just your data. You can back up your Windows "profile" I personally like to do this but its far from needed most of the time.
Here is an article that you may want to read on it

My bad, homie.
It'll be a while. But thanks. The big three you have to do at the same time, mother board, cpu, and memory.
