Well its better than getting hit with a planet on your back and neck again and again and again
Also he does not have to go Full-contact everytime he can do shadow boxing, hitting the bag and the mittens and when he fells alright go for some sparring
Kyokushin is excellent you dont have face punches so you dont have to worry about looking like quasimodo -

In this thread:
People give OP the same advice you would give someone signing up for their first ever judo class!
But seriously, BJJ is probably going to be a lot better for your neck, but not 100% safe. I'm sure you know better than anyone else here what your capabilities are, and what you can/can't handle.
If judo's your thing, a striking art will be pretty dull for you, but BJJ will be a much more natural transition. -

broken neck, don't wanna do judo anymore?
start doing arnis/eskrima, or find a chen-style taijiquan teacher who knows how to fight, you'll have fun."Judo is a study of techniques with which you may kill if you wish to kill, injure if you wish to injure, subdue if you wish to subdue, and, when attacked, defend yourself" - Jigoro Kano (1889)
***Was this quote "taken out of context"?***
"The judoist has no time to allow himself a margin for error, especially in a situation upon which his or another person's very life depends...."
~ The Secret of Judo (Jiichi Watanabe & Lindy Avakian), p.19
"Hope is not a method... nor is enthusiasm."
