Luckily most Order of Operation problems in the real world resemble this

A certain small factory employs 98 workers. Of these 10 receive a wage of P 350 per day and the rest receive P 255 per day. To the management, a week is equal to 6 working days. How much does the factory pay out for each week?

Instead of oddly notated strings of numbers.

Yes, it has superficial information that is done fine. That has never been the issue. We yell about SOURCING it as a definitive citation in a debate as your only form of proof.

There are similar issues in language.

One reason why we want to teach students rhetoric, grammar, and logic, as well as mathematics, music, astronomy, and geometry.

Algebra definitely makes more sense when it applies to tangible problems instead of hypotheticals intentionaly designed to confused the student. JMHO...

Snicker all you want. Superficial information like universal agreements on notation, terminology etc. is easily sourced.

Yes, I get what you're yelling about. But that's irrelevant to what I said.

I have had professors that would let you cite wiki. They have all been Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or computer professors. The reason it works for this group is in general wiki does have accurate up to date articles when it comes to these subjects. These subjects tend to not be highly subjective or controversial.

Even worse is that Wikipedia has the lists of source material at the bottom of each entry complete with links where applicable.

How lazy does a student have to be to not simply follow those links to a credible source for citation and probably more accurate information in a lot of cases?

Not only because I am a horrible repeat offender myself when it comes to the written word but a great deal of the people I deal with in the technical professions are even worse.
Hence why I actually prefer to pick up the phone or skype when ever possible instead of e-mailing to get clarification on an issue.
