I'm not tring to make it anything. I just don't think anyone should ever be banned from attending a TD, and I don't think anyone has the power to do such a thing. Look how this idea was tossed around by Rafe earlier in the thread. He wanted to ban TS just for being critical of him. Then he painted him as a rogue, dangerous sparring partner. An assessment you pretty much rejected. If we want to seriously consider excluding people from our events for liability reasons, at least put the decision in the hands of more than one person. Just because Rene is not the sort to abuse power doesn't mean individuals should have that kind of power in the first place. As you pointed out, Rafe wanted to start organizing TD's, and he would have abused this power by his own admission. Unless he was lying about that
Edit: saw your edit. I might have specifically with your point. Not on purpose if that's what you suggested.Last edited by Matt Phillips; 12/19/2012 12:46am at .

There is no world in which some single person doesn't have that power, unless we have throwdowns outside in the park
you know who does that, man?

Ideologically we agree here, except that the person who has to bear the legal consequences has that right.
For the record I agree with Rafe on TS being an dangerous sparring partner, because if we did hard contact he'd beat my ass up and down the mats. (for those that have problems with written form of communication: that was a joke.)Look how this idea was tossed around by Rafe earlier in the thread. You're trying to win an argument here that doesn't even exist yet. Nobody has been banned. My point was that any organisator of TD's has the option to stop doing it for whatever reason, including dealing with assholes. That's what I meant with the banning. Period. In an ideal world there wouldn't even be talk about any banning, but note also that Ming Loyalist backed Rene here - it's not like it's easy to find gyms that allow these gatherings to happen. You are being just a bit idealistic here.
If it wasn't clear enough: I agree with you. Nobody should be banned for personal issues. I repeat: I agree with you. And in the theoretical event of banning for liability issues I don't think it will ever come to a single person's decision as long as the TD is being held. It's not like it's a cabinet decision sprung upon people only when they're on site. The second you announce someone can't come because XYZ it becomes a community debate and you know it perfectly well.
As for the Rafe's as-of-yet-not-even-planned-TD: nobody is going to book hotels and plane tickets for a Schrödinger's TD (ie. one where you don't know that it's actually happening until you're there) which is what it will become on a forum so in love with drama as this one if someone starts to ban people beforehand for any reason.
FFS. I really hope all publicity is good publicity. The amount of posts about this and last year's EuroMega would suggest there'd be at least 30 people attending next year.Curiosity killed the cat. But damn it had a blast. -

As long as attendees respect the gym's rules, sign the waiver, pay the mat fee, and are wearing the right safety gear, I don't see why ban anyone.
Been to lots of TD's, not a problem at any of them. This includes the DanH0rgan trollfest TD. He was a proper gent in the gym, and would be welcome back anytime AFAIC. -
