I've tried this and never quite got it right, I'll get you to show me if you're ever at a EuroMega that I attend.

Interestingly, I had a batshit insane Aikido instructor who used to kotegaeshi the knee off a caught high-kick.

Well, to me its more of a showtrick, I never was able to pull it off during a match.
    Imo it isnt that practical.
I do have another one where you catch/grab the kick, turn your back into it and slide with the kicking movement, taking most force outta the kick, then you have his leg, drop weight, turn in and overhand with sweep.
    My fav move.

kote gaeshi a knee? what do you use as a handle?

Its actually more like the move you describe above, tenkan in the direction the kick is going, grab it at the knee with both hands (probably die from massive head trauma as he punches you), then you basically just keep up the spin and do the twist/throw on the knee. Its Aikido and he was mad, so its not exactly a practical technique.

If you read back a little bit I was talking about the MMA application of the kick catches: the way I was taught to do this, you're trapping (say) an incoming right round kick with two arms on your left side, pulling the ankle across, and retaining it near your own right armpit. If you can get the other guy to fall straight back (as opposed to stepping across for a trip or reaping throw), you reatain the ankle as you both go to the ground. From the natural position this usually produces, you can isolate the guys leg by holding it between your knees, transition your grip on the ankle and step over with your right leg to reap his knee. I found the best throw for this purpose is just retaining the leg and running straight at the guy. With his leg up in your armpit, and your free hand in his face, it's pretty easy to get him to fall on his butt right in front of you. Follow to the ground and pinch the leg between your knees.

Every caught kick is a high single. Big application to MMA IMHO.

Can you break this down a bit? It sounds like this is for a round (or similar angled) kick, is that right? I'm trying to understand what you mean by the "slide". You mean like a side step as the kick comes in from that same angle?
