Cynthia Rothrock was my OG TKD Girl crush!
Before Tarantino brought dialogue, chracter and plot development back into action films she was high kicking her way through legions of macho cookie cutter bad guys like Walker Texas ranger with more arials and nicer tits. (They tied for magnificent hair...)
Wait, does this mean those straight to video movies she put out in the 90's were not documentaries?
...i am crushed...

I kind of remember Pulp Fiction being the big turning point in mainstream action / gangster flicks.
Prior to that even groundbreaking cinematic experiences like Terminator 2 still played by Gloan Globus rules. (Chracters and dialogue are only a vehicle to SWEET EXPLOSIONS, GUNFIGHTS AND FLYING KICKS! EFFING NINJA STARS, MAN!!!!!!!!!)
For quite a while action came in just a few flavors. Segal, Van Dame, Schwarzenegger, Stalone, Norris. Rothrock was right in that mileu. I'd put her under "Van Dame with Cherries".
After Pulp Fiction we started to see more Mementos and less Rage & Honors.
That's not to say his formula isn't a total dead horse these days. To me "Death Proof" was Tarantino taking an idea that was fresh and inspired back in '94 and then beating it mecilessly into the ground before paying a gang of stinky hobos $20 to pee on it uncermoniously. But that's just me...Last edited by Mr. Machette; 10/29/2012 6:21pm at .
