Oh, and they named the town just to the North of Groton, Ledyard after Colonel Ledyard, demonstrating that we once again would steal our place names anyway we could. :)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shay%27s_rebellion

Shay's Rebellion was a small scale revolt by war veterans due to the post Revolutionary War economic depression. The town that I grew up in(Petersham, MA) actually used to do a re enactment every February, but discontinued it in the early 2000's due to complaints by some folks that thought it was "Unamerican".

Yes, and in retaliation against the British forces taking Washington, the American forces later took York (now Toronto). But York wasn't much of a metropolis back then, and it wasn't much of a battle - land the ships, take the little fort, blow up the munitions, hang out for two days, get bored, go home.

    Ambush
Wikipedia-During the War of Independence there was a number of actions in the area. Including on February 3, 1921 when the Irish Republican Army (IRA) ambushed and killed three Black and Tans on the Tulligbeg side of the village. That night the black and tans retaliated by burning much of the village and homes in the Ballinaboy area.

Battle at the Ford of the Ash Trees

    Name: .jpg
Views: 11
Size: 9.5 KB

Came across this place this weekend. About 3 miles from mine

Legend has it that long ago a battle was fought here and on victory the victor took an ash stick from the hand of the vanquished chief and stuck it in the ground

The stick grew into the fore father of the ash trees that grow around the ford today
