Made many trips to TJ, but don't know if the place is even safe anymore. LOL at the IRL RSBD. Memories...
Aside, I've rethought my comment above. Moosie, if you're not already a bike rider, be careful with the learning process. Traffic was hell back then (30yrs ago), but bikes were allowed to pass on the highway. Don't know if that's still the case. -

Traffic's bad at certain times of day, but still way better than in LA. Motorcycles pass between traffic lanes all the time, but I'm not sure if its legal or not. But how would a cop car chase them in gridlock traffic?
A good friend of mine is in a motorcycle club here that's made up of Marine drill sergeants. Might be a good group to speak with. -

Its only legal to pass between traffic lanes if traffic is at a complete stop. But then again, its technically illegal to drive over the speed limit here too. A lot of people cut through lanes here whenever they can get away with it.
Also, while Tijuana isn't the safest place, its also not the dangerous hellhole most people make it out to be. I know a lot of people who go there regularly and come back just fine.
Crossing back through the border, though, is definitely its own kind of hell. -

Corey Bennin is an officer on base, helps the base's pankration team, went toe to toe with Gezere in Pankration. Can't say enough good things about the man. -

The last time I was in TJ, I ended up being driven around in the back of a Policia pickup truck that had a shower rail down the center of the bed to handcuff people. They drove me out to the gnarly hooker district before shaking me down for a bribe. No plans on going back anytime soon.

I'm going to be a Combat Instructor with the Marine Combat Training Battalion, SOI-WEST.
I'm going to be working some pretty crazy hours, but I'm sure there will be plenty of times to meet up with some bullies for a few brewskies.
I'm legit stoked about all this. The logistics of all this are pretty frightening, but I cannot fricken wait.
My report date is january 7th, but I might be in town a few days early. Plus my actual school doesn't start until january 15th, so I'll have plenty of time to chillax before my school picks up.
The bike thing is a very possible idea. I'm gonna try to get a place on base, with my wife, but if that doesn't work out, i want something close, and cheap....(i know, its california, lol)
PROOF that I'm not a completely useless poster:

I haven't kept up. Married? Congratulations!
Off base living close would be Oceanside to the south and San Clemente to the north.
Oceanside = no beach to speak of while San Clemente has plenty. I lived off base in Oceanside for awhile but preferred San Clemente for socializing.
Omega's link looks like the place for you Moosie. Good luck and Semper Fi.
