I can't give you any exact statistics, but I can tell you that there's at least one high profile case every year.
Last December in South Africa, Simphiwe Tom was put in a coma after a brutal beating by Sabelo Jubatha. He later died.
2009 had two high profile deaths. Teon Kennedy stopped Francisco Rodriguez in Rd 10, who died two days later as a result of injuries. Benjamin Flores fought Al Seeger, collapsed in Rd. 8, and was taken out on a stretcher — and was later pronounced dead.
Of course, there was the famous Duk Koo Kim death that aired on national television. After that fight, Boom Boom Mancini was never the same.
Anyone who brags about killing someone in the ring is a complete scumbag as far as I'm concerned. -
