Colin, that song and band are terrible. Stick to Crowbar, NOLA metal won't let you down.

I wasn't promoting them! Just offering an explanation.
That said - I don't think that they ARE terrible - however I would definitely prefer their stuff without the random pop and techno inserts.

    Furthermore:
    Here's some local Tassie Metal:

I was more referring to the crab core nonsense as indicative of good breakdowns. It seems like they just threw whatever had any sort of following over the last few years into a blender and came up with that. Tassie metal is definitely new genre to me. I guess it is a way better moniker than marsupial metal. Good on you and the people of your island.

This band in particular is quite unique, even among the Tassie scene. The singer is a mate of mine - their influences are quite eclectic, they're like a death metal version of Mr.Bungle.

Check the timer at around 13:47 for a 'breakdown'.

Looking forward to seeing these guys again. Going to make up for my poor showing at the Sydney gig a couple of years ago.

What do you call that thing that's sort of like a breakdown, but the metal equivalent? Where a song is mostly blasts or snare hits on the off-beat, and then it suddenly falls into even time so that you can bang your head around? I have a lot of those. I've never known what you call them, though. You could probably just call them breakdowns, but that'd upset the battlejacket crowd.

    Here's a kind of crusty-thrashy-80s type one that I've always loved: (2:00 - 3:30)

    Here's a powery black metal one: (1:30 - 3:30)

    Here's a really silly power metal one: (3:00 - 4:35)

And this is probably my favourite breakdown ever in the metalcore-y sense of the word: (2:20 - 4:15)

How tempted should I be to call that NSW number and choose option #1?

I always figured the breakdown was an exaggeration of what was originally the bridge of a song.
