    Omega, your knowledge is required.

Z-guard: innovative BJJ position or embarrassing heel hook bait?

    Omega slackingggg.

Do you actually use this position, Shark? I just googled it, it looks like- "Here's a loose half guard so you can attack my legs and pass my guard freely. You're welcome."

The position just doesn't make sense to me, from only looking at it, from an offensive standpoint. I will talk to some coaches about it and report back.

It seems like this could easily be passed by a navy ride/leg lace.

Truth? Ask Tyrone Glover. Watch as he toe hold guy after guy going to Z guard. I teach my guys, "Z guard " but then I show them the leg locks. Good with gi if you can maintain grip but that is it (kindle typing) .

I really like attacking the toe hold from the Z-guard or loose half. It just seems to gift it to you; even if you just use it to threaten and then pass.

Lack of experience here: The toe hold seems superior to attack from inside the z-guard, for the heel hook you don't have the isolation or control on their knee to really sink it in clean, or am I missing something?
Daniel: I don't know if I know enough karate.

    Miyagi: Feeling correct.

Daniel: You sure know how to make a guy feel confident.

Miyagi: You trust the quality of what you know, not quantity.

In our classification toe hold is technically a heel hook.

No I hate Z-guard. I toe hold, heel hook, kneebar and ankle lock everyone that does it to me.

So basically its a Guard that would more or less go away if more people spent time working the basics of foot locks and are allowed to use them?

I used to play z guard. But now my top leg is relatively vertical.
