Family vacation. With kids under twelve. Kid friendly, but gay ass Chuck E. Cheese type kids entertainment is not necessary. Nature. Scenery. Food. Will cost me at least one metric **** ton of cash to fly everyone there from the east coast so I might as well stay somewhere reasonably pimp if I go. I prefer less people to more but it doesn't have to be an abandoned cave, either.

Somewhere with awesome, beautiful beach scenery. I'm sure that doesn't narrow it down much in Hawaii, but I want people to hate me when they see the awesomeness of my vacation pictures.

That island is so awesome, there are tons of fish in the water, along with lobster, seaweed, urchins, and opihi:



There's axis deer, wild turkey, pheasant, pigs, goats etc.

Growing crops can be really easy, if you have a nice valley.

There are even artesian springs where water just bubbles out of the ground, in some areas.

Definitely one of my favorite spots on Earth.

Look for deals and plan early, Hawaiian just had r/t HNL-JFK for under $400.
Consider doing more than one island.
Oahu obviously has the greatest variety and all the amenities, but also has 90% of the population.

It's easy to stay "in town" and cover oahu by car.
Within easy reach of Waikiki/Honolulu (ie the south shore) there's some interesting military stuff like the Arizona/Pearl Harbor.
Diamond Head crater is a hike, scenic lookout, volcano, military relic all wrapped up in one.
Surfing lessons and canoe rides, dinner cruises etc are the norm.
Hanauma bay is a must, it still blows my mind.
It's an old volcanic crater that one wall fell to the ocean and now it's a wildlife reserve.
The fish eat out of your hand, it's like a giant aquarium.







It's ridiculous, and ridiculously crowded so best avoid peak times and seasons for that one namely summer and weekends.

Makapu'u Lighthouse is an easy hike near there kids can do, and Sea Life Park is right around the corner.

The views can be stunning; you can see Maui and Moloka'i on a clear day and whale sitings are guaranteed around spring.

Really? That would be a steal. ****, I'd drive to JFK from NC for that kind of deal. I'll have to be on the lookout.

What are some of the resorts you would suggest?

Edit: Thanks for the info. I had never looked at Hawaiian Airlines' website. I could get the four of us from JFK to Hawaii and back for under $2K. That's way cheaper than the prices I'd been looking at before. And it sounds like I could do better than that if I waited for specials.
