Considered in the abstract the boxing ring is an altar of sorts, one of those legendary spaces where the laws of a nation are suspended: inside the ropes, during an officially regulated three-minute round, a man may be killed by his opponent's hands but he cannot be legally murdered. Boxing inhabits a sacred space predating civilization; or, to use D.H. Lawrence's phrase, before God was love. If it suggests a savage ceremony or a rite of atonement it also suggests the futility of such gestures. For what possible atonement is the fight waged if it must shortly be waged again... and again? The boxing match is the very image, the more terrifying for being so stylized, of mankind's collective aggression; its ongoing historical madness.

    The Plane,

When the tsunami subsides, those collossal squids are still going to be clinging on and climbing your apartment block.

    They can't fly though.

How do you know? Maybe they haven't tried because they didn't have a reason.

Dude, you really need to read Stirling's Emberverse series. The Old Religionists are some of the best buttkickers in the story.

Wicca is New Age trying to pass itself of as Old Religion.

Eschewing the shrieky, messy Blood-Eagles of my ancestors, I shall welcome the New Mother Earth with slowly swirling faery dances under Aquarian moonbeams while wearing crystals on my 'blessed-be' crystals.

Peaceful shall I be before the crossbows of the unwashed.

Peaceful and totally helpless. How easy a target? Come a little closer and see. Just a bit closer. Don't mind the fact that my hands are hidden under my quilted hippy poncho....and those sounds stealing up behind you? That's just the ambient wind gently playing with wraith-like leaves.

    Closer......Closer......
