Yeah, it kind of was. The whole theme of the School of Arms was to make it into a three-day event, rather than just another martial arts seminar.

I gotta say, that gives me a good reason to go to Chicago one of these days. What they got going on there looks like a good time, especially the obstacle course.
I've heard a lil about bartitsu and what I've heard has interested me so far.

I'd like to find something like this in the Wichita area.

We run the Antagonisticathlon (obstacle course) every three months or so. The Bartitsu Club of Chicago doesn't have belt gradings, etc. so the Antagonisticathlon is a fun, challenging way to test progress and keep motivation up. Some people make a small notch in their training cane for each one they've done.

Don't know of any Bartitsu groups in Wichita, sorry.

I figured not. *shrug* Anyways, is there manuals or videos I could find to whet the appetite until I find a bartitsu club to train in?

Yep - the two volumes of the Bartitsu Compendium are available from Amazon.com or Lulu.com (the first volume is about 2/3 history and 1/3 technique and those proportions are roughly reversed in the second volume). The only professionally produced video available at the moment is the documentary "Bartitsu: the Lost Martial Art of Sherlock Holmes" (again, not a technical guide), which is available via Amazon or directly from the publishers, the Freelance Academy Press. Google searches should take you straight to them.

I like reading & history, so I don't think I'll have a hard time reading them. I'll find a way to get a hold of some copies. Thanks for the info, DdlR. Maybe I'll make it to one of those Antagonisticathalons someday.

I mentioned tech.-to-history ratios because some guy in the UK gave the documentary a one-star negative review on Amazon; he was bitterly disappointed that it didn't teach him any moves, because he apparently didn't understand what a "documentary" was.

I'm pretty lucky to live 2.5-3 hours from Bartitsu instruction.
