I just started Be Cool (Elmore Leonard), and it's shaping up nicely.

The Davinchi Code was a pale imitation of Foucault's Pendullum
Considered in the abstract the boxing ring is an altar of sorts, one of those legendary spaces where the laws of a nation are suspended: inside the ropes, during an officially regulated three-minute round, a man may be killed by his opponent's hands but he cannot be legally murdered. Boxing inhabits a sacred space predating civilization; or, to use D.H. Lawrence's phrase, before God was love. If it suggests a savage ceremony or a rite of atonement it also suggests the futility of such gestures. For what possible atonement is the fight waged if it must shortly be waged again... and again? The boxing match is the very image, the more terrifying for being so stylized, of mankind's collective aggression; its ongoing historical madness.

It takes one hell of a "community organizer" (snicker) to get a regiment of orcs from Gorgoroth to the Morannon.

You seem quite knowledged on good literature

Do you have high hopes for the hobbit trilogy?
I do but what's up with doing a Trilogy I read the hobbit and it was quite shorter than LOTR

In the cartoon it's a batallion. The cartoon skipped a lot.

And at least a total of 3 hours of highly computer animated fight scenes.

They have to get through fights with

    - trolls
    - goblins
    - barrels
    - wood elves
    - spiders
    - men
    - eagles
    - a dragon

Not to mention they'll have the Battle of Five Armies, which I expect will be most of at least one film.

They are also including a lot of the stuff that wasn't in the hobbit but written in the notes, IE the stuff that explains why Gandolf didn't just handle the **** himself.
