    I was under the impression that Judo was completely different ? There is a Judo instructor real close though, and it's a lot more affordable then the JIu Jitsu schools in the area.

    Completely different focus not necessarily different techniques. Many, if not all, of the throwing techniques in JJ are in Judo. Judo doesn't have any striking.

    Judo has one the best throwing techniques, & depending on the teacher you can get solid ground game & self-defense.

    Give it a try for a couple of classes & see how it goes.

    If you want Competition Jiu Jitsu, go to a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school. If you want to stick with Japanese Arts, find a Judo school. Good Japanese JuJutsu schools do exist, but to find one is a combination of luck and knowledge.
