I was raised in a very conservative Baptist family and have read the Bible all the way through on multiple occasions.

Let me tell you a secret. This appeal doesn't mean anything unless you back it up with RESEARCH outside of your purview.

I was raised in a very conservative Baptist family and have read the Bible all the way through on multiple occasions. I found no verse that completely overturned the Old Testament.

I know many people that have "read the Bible through" and can't see the contradictions, the Human based emotional God, and misogyny in the Bible. I hope you read it in the original language. There have been so many changes it is ridiculous to rely on one version of the Bible.

Just to add some facts to the thread (not directed at all at you Bodhi as I'm sure you know this):

America was founded as a "New World Order"...which was supposed to be "under God", but free from him in government and business. Many of our founding fathers were freemasons, which has been one of the few groups throughout history that has really championed religious freedom.

Unfortunately, their good idea was destroyed by religious zealots...and our country today finds itself subject to arcane puritan principles, at the expense of liberty and freedom.

Citation needed. I don't believe they allow members to join with out some sort of acknowledgement of the divine but I don't recall any anti-atheist persecution or restrictions on their freedom of religion stance.

Also "under God" rejects divine right of kings and vest any divine mandate in the individual, not religious leaders or government officials. If you don't believe in the divine it is still useful that this perceived power is taken from government.
