To be fair, his "argument" does apply to certain RBSD crowds.

    EDIT:
Actually, scratch that. Even that's too much of a blanket statement.

It really sounds like the guy just sort of plagiarizes episodes of Bullshit! and just now got to the martial arts one. Everybody loves a parrot.

I try to impress my wife with it, but she sees it mostly to two sweaty men in pajamas rolling around on the ground together. Then I ask her if she is jealous.

The thing is that the "feeling" is something we get from training, well, I'm sure I get it anyway. The "feeling" is a quietened mind, a meditative state where we just are. At first we might get a millisecond of it in training, but that soon grows to seconds, then minutes and if what I am told is correct, hours and indefinite at higher levels. It's drug like and you can trust me on that. Everything we do is releasing endorphins, from the joy in a well executed technique to the pain just prior to tapping. We free our minds from the daily grind and find ourselves.

I'm no surfer, I love the surf, but I don't have the inclination to take a board into the water at all those times required to get good at surfing. But I will get on the mat to get good at that. My upbringing, my history has brought me here, just as a surfer's upbringing and history brought them to the beach (or wavepool, for those not near a beach).

This is actually pretty spot on for someone who does not surf, and mirrors some of my reasons for training, and surfing.

...of course Matt Thornton says it better than i:

Well, your current avatar says "PRIDE".

No rainbow, sure--but there's that fist.

That pundit is just afraid of people who kick ass, because it disturbs his peaceful, harmonious worldview. Jealousy and a bit of anxiety pour into a 'theory' proven by correlation.

    Wow, just wow.

Since he was smarmily pointing out that out of the 2000 replies, not 1(!) person said that they weren't abused before taking martial arts, I'll just note that I never was, on the off chance that he reads this thread. I had an older brother and we often Pro-Wrestled, with him winning because he was bigger, but nothing I'd really call abuse, and that was pretty much it.

What kid hasn't been bullied or felt insecure in its life?
