Sorry I never made it- my dance card's pretty full these days.
Just so you know, I've done like 5 years of tai chi, and I know what the classics are. I think its kinda funny how you say Americans are obsessed with classifications, when you're comparing them to the Chinese! Creating false dichotomies like internal and external styles just to have more classifications.As far as styles go, I don't say. I was taught from the Tai Chi Classics. Do a google search. They never mentioned a style. In fact, you will do better to understand Tai Chi as a set of principles to enable a body to perform at maximum efficiency, i.e. maximum result with minimum effort, rather than a certain "style." Americans are too obsessed with classification.

So when you say you were taught from the classics, does that mean from a teacher who used them, or just by studying the texts themselves? The classifications aren't a bad thing; they make lineage easy to establish and make it possible to tell apart different expressions of Tai Chi.
