    Kyokushin belt test sparring

Just gonna leave this stuff here for fun. I tested for my brown in Kyokushin two nights ago. Basically, they exhaust you for a couple of hours with calisthenics, body weight exercises, aerobics, endless kicking drills, throws, kata, and THEN they want you to spar against relatively fresh upper belts. I'm the bald fellow with the green belt in these vids. I can pretty much not keep my hands up at this point, but hey, let's spar anyway.

Me vs. one of our Shodans:

Me vs. another of our Shodans:

Me vs. Sensei: (he's being particularly nice, methinks)

Anyway, I thought this could be a fun little side journey for the Japanese forum. Comments entirely welcome.

Yeah, I did, although I'd like to have done better for myself. I'm sure it'll be quite awhile before I'll be testing for Shodan, and that's cool. I don't even want to wear that black belt until my flexibility is much better, I've at least placed in one of the local tournies, and my kata is much crisper.

    My Sensei undoubtedly agrees.

Here is a trick that was taught to me. When you are tired move. Keep on the move because getting caught in constant exchanges drains more energy than moving to be a hard target.

This is not intuitive and kind of sucks to do. (And not really in the spirit of krotty) but works.

Yeah, that actually makes good sense. I left out some other rounds where I was probably doing more of what you're saying. Of course, if I try to dance around Sensei, he'll probably just berate me for it, lol.

    Congratulations!

I got promoted to 3rd Kyu a little over 2 months ago.
I train in Seido Juku Karate over here in High Wycombe, UK.

Similar to you we get put through our paces for 2 hours (drills, kata, pushups, etc) then to top it off I had to go through 8 fights with seniors (as you go to 2nd Kyu you have 12 fights then it's 16 and then 40 to become a shodan).

I passed too and I still beam at the fact I knocked a Ni Dan to the ground.
Kept telling myself that if I don't fight these b*stards then they're going to hurt my mum.

    I feel your pain!

Congrats to both on your gradings. KK gradings are no joke. I have sat in on a few SeidoKan belt tests and they get put through the paces, so I have a lot of respect for the both of you.

Thanks, man...and thanks to MMAD MMAX too (congrats) Yeah, they're tough. It doesn't seem to matter what shape you're in, they'll just make sure they go enough beyond your conditioning to exhaust you.
