Insurance

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong forum for this.

I started a new job a couple of days ago but this job doesn't offer any kind of health insurance packages. Can someone recommend a cheap (fingers crossed) and good health insurance provider? For those of you who don't know, I live in the States.

Check out high deductible health plan and an hsa. Cover you for worst case scenario and has some benefits if you stay healthy.

HSA is health savings account. Has tax advantages also.

Sorry but I am extremely ignorant on this subject as I have never had to seek my own insurance before. Is HSA a company?

No government sanctioned tax deferred account sort of like an IRA but you use it to pay any medical bills. Combine with high deductible health plan. Google high deductible health plan with HSA. Money is yours to keep if not spent. But penalty to withdraw before retirement.

I could also use some advice in this regard; I just turned 26, and thus have finally entered the ranks of America's uninsured. Since I'm self-employed, I'm staying that way until I buy my own health insurance.

If you don't smoke and are single it won't be ridiculously expensive. Wife and kids is where you tend to lose everything you have in your pockets.

I was my own boss for five years and bought my own insurance. In the end, for the exact setup mike321 suggested, I paid about $100 dollars more a month.
