What fucking rocket surgeon wrote this article?A new military study suggests that some soldiers suffer mild traumatic brain injuries even before they go to war. These concussions, as they're also called, can come from taking "combatives" classes that teach hand-to-hand fighting during the soldiers' training.
Training is dangerous for smaller girls...? Well, no ****. Do you expect the enemy to pull their punches? "Oh, wait, you're smaller... I won't punch you to death, I'll just tickle you into submission."

In other news, I learned from the Military Channel that having a chocolate bar instead of the steak and eggs breakfast probably made the difference as to whether or not you survived the D-Day beachhead with your guts intact.
6%? Less than 1 in 10?
Well there's their sample problem right there. The study looks, in part, at soldiers at sprawling Fort Hood, Texas -

NPR won't be satisfied until the military is reduced to being an international floral delivery service.
This is the same news outlet that litteraly describes asking for Id as genocide.

Training is Dangerous, YES
Their are all kinds of injuries from combrat training(CT). By its nature CT must be as close to actual combrat. Humping(rucking for you Doggies types) with over a 100 pounds on you can lead to stress fractures and heat Illness. Pushing beyond your body's limits day after day(you don't want to be known as a nonhacker) can lead to body shutdown. Turn a ankle in a night excerise. The possiblitlies for any kind of injury are really endless when your is pushed beyond it's limits. The gulf of misunderstanding between those who never served and the military is growing larger each passing year as less and less of the USA serve their nation. So the the unserved will believe anything the media tells them. We need to keep the politcos and civilies out making policy for the armed services. Let us go back to kicking ass and winning any war, police action or conflict .

Injuries happen everywhere
By its nature, training for war injuries will occur or you are not training your servicemen hard enough. The amout of injuries is very small when compared to the total that train up for the Sandbox or A'stain. Patton said it best,"the more you bleed in peace the less you die in war".Their is a ever widening gulf between servicemen and those who have never served! They have no knowledge of the training needed . So, they will believe whatever the never-served media reports to them. Afterall they saw or heard it on TV or radio. Joe Rant off

I guess it really comes down to time and benefits, if you have to choose between tactic drills, and shooting for example and mma stile fighting, ill go with tactics, shooting drills, radio etc. You also have to take into account the money invested in each soldier, and if it is wise to risk it for the "benefits" from him having a bit more skill.
I don't know the extent of MA training they get, but if it is like the Israeli Army, it is a short version that focuses on aggression developing. I think that the curriculum they get is bad and might need to change a bit. (You think that the instructors there let them develop in a normal pace?). We have the same complains here, also from people who did serve. Because most units here aren't volunteer based (you have to serve for 3 years), parents and others cry every-time someone dies or get injured in training...so much so, that in ma training in elite units they don't let the soldiers on leave so their parents won't see the black eyes and such. If the MA training isn't half assed and aggression based, and it is the same as in the civil world than they need to STFU, however if it is a short aggressive version that tries in a short time to toughen the soldiers up a bit...well maybe the latter is a better way to go. (you have time in the army, they can cut down on the endless marches and runs..:) )
