It's a shame that Dana White shuns publicity and rarely says what's on his mind -- I'd like to hear his first-hand account of the conversation with Jones.

"I had to do what's right for myself by turning down that fight," Jones recently told the AP. "Dana had to do what was right for himself by putting the blame on everyone else except for himself. The lesson to be learned is, at the end of the day, you have to protect yourself and your family."

"For him to get out how he felt about me in that situation (on the call), it will help me look at things more business-oriented. A lot of good can come out of it. Fighters can learn the lesson of doing what's best for themselves and not feeling like puppets.

"I think the UFC has learned a lesson of making sure they stay loyal to the fans and give them full cards."

"I've been dealing with a lot of controversy," Jones said. "A lot of insults right now. People tell me, ‘You're the champ, you've got to take the fight.' Being the champ wasn't given to me. I don't owe anybody anything."

It's quite possible that these serious of events could make things better for fighters and give them greater control. Then again, it could be the proverbial "enough rope to hang yourself"... That said, if the UFC begins to ensure that all cards have at least 3 potential main event status cards, it would likely ensure less control by the fighters.

I do agree with the business aspect. It's a weird thing. Think of gym owners. Many gym owners are friends and good buddies with the guys they train with. That said, if they can't pay their membership dues, then something has to give. Bills are bills after all.

The interesting thing about this is, the drama alone would make this a more compelling MMA movie then most of the drivel that's being coming out as of late.
