See, and that's why I put this all on Dana. The event didn't need to be canceled. As usual, Dana had another temper tantrum.

Want, want, want. I want a million dollars and a blowjob from Kate Upton. It's not all about him.

I think one of the great things about the UFC is that the structure of the organization tends to prevent fighters from acting like a bunch of primadonnas. These guys work for the UFC. It's not a situation like boxing where everyone is independent and they endlessly negotiate the terms of every damn fight. If they're told it's time to fight, they need to put on their big boy britches and fucking fight.

When every big name fighter in the UFC starts acting like Floyd Mayweather, the fans are going to be the big losers.

Apparently it is, he didn't get fired and still fights a few weeks after 151.

At the same time, I think the biggest flaw is they control everything to the point where illegitimate people get title fights and contenders get skipped over at the whim of Zuffa.

Yep, I agree. Still, with all the money, you knew it was headed for NBA, MLB, Boxing and NFL bullshit.

    It's slowly heading that way.

No, just like any job, he can chose not to fight, call in sick, and get suspended or fired. It happens like this, all of the time, when people work for a company.

It's Dana's job to enforce the rules and set out punishment. Punishing everyone else and then letting the star continue is stupid in my book.

You know, since we are using the job analogy.

    True.

It'll be worth it just for the spectacle of UFC losing their ****. I mean, this is just a taste of things to come.

By the way, I have nothing against the UFC per se. It's just that

That's ridiculous. Fighters refuse fights all the time for various reasons. It just usually isn't put out in the open, front and center. If you were Machida, and told "hey, you can either fight the guy that dropped your lifeless husk last time, and you'll have 3 weeks to train, but if you pass this opportunity up then by God you'll have to... win, once, before you get a title shot," then you'd be retarded to take the short notice fight.

No one in their right mind should challenge Jon Jones without the opportunity to be in top form and having trained specifically for him. Given the number of people that passed on the dubious honor of a short notice match (Machida and Shogun, that we know of) seems the fighters are very much in their right minds.

I see your point about undeserving people getting title shots at the whim of Zuffa. But undeserving people get title shots in boxing too. Personally, I'd rather have the Zuffa system. They make money when they put on fights people want to see, which results in about 100 times the number of awesome fights you see in boxing. It's not perfect for sure but I think it tends to work out pretty well for the fans.

I also agree it's stupid to punish everyone except the offender. I think Dana needs to make an example of some of these guys or this **** will get out of hand. He can't make them fight, but he can make them suffer when they pull this crap. Yank all the discretionary bonuses they typically hand out. **** them with shitty matchups like Belfort. Or better yet, cut them. There would be a short term suck factor if they went that route but I think it would benefit the business and the fans in the long run.

    And that is truly unfortunate.

No more superfights. Everyone will aim to have perfect records, and those that do will aim to preserve them at all costs.

Sorry to say, but I blame Dana, but I blame him for different reasons... if he doesn't want this sport to become boxing he needs to remedy two things in quick order:

    (1) No more fight cards that are supported by only one quality fight. That is the biggest complaint about boxing (Hopkins vs. Dawson anyone) and is true here.

    (2) Hold fighters to a higher standard. Guess what, you have to take fights or you lose your belt. If you're a contender and you duck, you lose ground on the way to your challenge.

As a fan, and someone who pays for PPV pretty consistently (I was going to buy this fight for sure), that's what I would want to see.

Yes, but I see that as paving the way for it to become more like boxing.

See, this is how I think and why Dana is full of ****. If he cut or suspended an undefeated fighter, people will get right back in line.

He cut someone for an old rape van meme. When he has a chance to really make a definitive statement, he whines and is "disgusted" enough to give Jones another payday a few weeks later.

That really isn't that different. A few people have said that as well.

I've got no respect for a contender who turns down a title shot. Machida's never going to be ready to fight Jon Jones. Ever. Nevertheless, he should jump at any opportunity. He's a professional fighter given the opportunity to be the champ. 'Nuff said.

It's not even a smart move strategically. By taking the opportunity you get an immediate title shot with a guy who is probably going to beat your ass. The upside is that you may in fact win and become the champ AND even if you lose you come out looking like a boss for stepping up. By not taking the opportunity you get longer to train but end up fighting a guy who might beat your ass and prevent your title shot from happening at all. And even if you win, you're still probably going to get raped in the title fight. And you look like a disinterested chump. There's just no real benefit to turning down the short notice title fight.
