Who wants to be alienated?
If this "ordinary person" is incapable of recognizing that Neal Patrick Harris is doing his best Goebbels impersonation, complete with Nazi trenchcoat, in Starship Troopers, then they live in a much less interesting world than those of us who do.

The Star Wars prequels are visionary film making and anyone who disagrees is an inbred troglodyte! After all, George Lucas did an interview where he said he was going to make visionary films, so you stupid people need to stop your stupid whining and shut your stupid mouths so your stupid germs don't contaminate my air.

That and all the bailouts the president sponsored/didn't veto are why I am no longer willing to vote for him. Then again, I'm not willing to vote for Romney either.Shut the hell up and train.

Show me a candidate that believes in both Financial Darwinism (no corporation is too big to fail) and limited social responsibility (no welfare or SS, but access to limited healthcare for all).
Did you know that social security was never intended for long term use? What do you think it means for America when we grow increasingly distant from the idea that people should take personal responsibility for the decisions they make?
If you drive on the roads or go to school in this country, I think mandatory military OR civil service should be required for two years. Furthermore, lack of this service should result in disenfranchisement at a minimum. That means a person failing to serve would not be allowed to vote.
Rather than income taxes, there should be transaction taxes. It would be set on a sliding scale rate. Meaning that the lower the cost of the transaction, the lower the tax is.
You want to buy a loaf of bread? You pay minimal tax. You want to buy a luxury yacht? You'll be paying 30% on top of the boat's quarter million dollar price.
Awaits cries of being a socialist.Shut the hell up and train.

Yes, I was aware of the intellectual conceit in my previous post. One thing I've learned in life is that being smart doesn't make you any less of a jackass. Rather, it often makes you better at it.
In my book, being educated includes the power of critical thinking. Therefore, Mr. Lucas can insist that his work is visionary as the day is long. That doesn't mean it's true.
What people say doesn't mean a damn thing Vince. What people do, does.

It's usually introduced as a complimentary tax so having it completely replace income tax would be quite unique, if you could find some politicians prepared to actually implement it.
However, your sliding scale rate will the the cause no end to lobbying and debate about what constitutes luxury/necessity etc. 12 years on we still have a lobby group who's major gripe is that men's razors are GST-free whilst women's sanitary products have GST.Dum spiro, spero.
