I'm not sure what the robot on Mars has to do with anything. Before everyone gets their head stuck in the clouds they need to remember we haven't cured the common cold OR perfected the personal jet pack. Science is a marathon, not a sprint.
While I (sadly) agree with you that the idea of a some kind of dinosaur is right out, I am not so quick to say there's NOTHING down there in the loch. Wels catfish can get pretty big, and every so often the common eel throws up a pretty good sized specimen as well. Either one of those in the 8-9 foot range is going to get any crusty old Scotsman's kilt in a twist. -

But... but... it's in a BIOLOGY TEXTBOOK! Surely, nothing would be there without the full force of scientific rigor behind it...

I agree that if a lot of these animals were real then we would have a lot better quality footage than always seems to turn up, but while cameras have gotten better, smaller and attached to more things. The one piece that hasn't kept up is distance clarity, it's very hard to get a decent image of something far away with most ordinary digital cameras, phone cameras etc...
Are you one of those Scots who was born in North America, whose parents were born in North America and whose parent's parents were born in North America? -

Yes I am, and what of it? Are you going to deny me the right to my cultural heritage just because you English pigs turned the motherland into such a hellhole that my ancestors figured they were better off dealing with red savages on a foreign continent than the mess YOU created?
Point of order:
Said ancestors were the Black Campbells of Argyle, who sided with said English pigs and probably played just as big a part in turning Scotland into a hellhole, what with their unfortunate "Clan X disrespected us twenty years ago so we need to race out of the woods and slaughter every man, woman, and child of them, preferably while they're all unarmed and drunk." Which pretty much knocks the tires off my tartan swathed moral outrage.
