Am I the 2%? Appleseed after action report
That isn't much in a forum where a lot of guys would probably get a 250 on the Appleseed AQT. But this is my first shooting achievement. I do want to move onto doing high power rifle matches and local rimfire shoots.
But yeah, I signed up for one day and went to Saturday. I wasn't sure if any of us were going to get to shoot AQTs that day, but the instructors extended the event past 7PM to get in two AQTs. I scored top shooter with a score of 228. On Saturday one other kid passed score of 215, turns out it is his first time too. I want to try going again with my wife and try to qualify on a bolt action.
My after action report and FAQ here. Keep in mind I'm only a one timer and not an instructor or anything. Also keep in mind not all Appleseed shoots are run the same.
After Action Report and some tips for those trying to pass the first time
Things I wish I knew before going to the Appleseed event
grats! next time, do better!
Thanks for the links. That's was a nice write up.
How much was the cost for men who are not Leo's or millitary?
I'm going to have to see if I can find a local program like this.
I paid 45 bucks plus a 15 dollar range fee for my event. The range fee was a bit bullshit, just a bunch of rednecks who wanted to make money. they have nothing to do with the RWVA though. The 'range' was just some piece of property, with grass that had been growing for months, with a little 4 foot backstop and no shade. One portapotty for acres of land, and run down shacks everywhere. I'd seen dumps in better condition. The week before, they held Appleseed at Gainesville Target Range, which is probably the nicest range in north central florida. Their range fees were lower.. go figure. Sorry, rant. lol
Its very worth it. I highly recommend it.
Are there any very experienced shooters who have done both Appleseed as well as a paid class for rifle marksmanship? I'd like to know which one is better for fundamentals
BTW Dflanmod, I lived in San Diego from 02-09
Cool. Thanks for info on the price.

You do any shooting when you were out this way? If so where did you go?
most of my shooting (which wasn't much in San Diego) was done at Iron Sights in Oceanside, CA, and Project 2000 in El Cajon. (that is middle of nowhere el cajon, not ghetto el cajon) Shot at the Miramar trap range once or twice..
I can't find anything in San Diego, but if you have to make a drive out to get to one of these events I highly recommend it. Worth every penny
