No this is why it would actually thrive. People you know who want to be contrary or train something different to be different.

What part of san diego are you in?
Serra Mesa, but as distance isn't much of an issue for me as long as it's within ~20 miles.

Yeah, there's a lot of BJJ here, and really good schools too.

Definitely. I plan on training in Judo if I can't find a place to learn SAMBO. But since I can't begin training anyways for a while I figured I'd see if I could find a place that teaches SAMBO.

Judo America in Mira Mesa is pretty close to you and is an excellent Judo school.

If your willing to go on down to East Lake I also highly recommend
    Migoto Judo

Thanks for the links. What about San Diego Judo? I've heard pretty good things about it.

My honest advice is go take a class at all of the schools your willing to travel to and see what group you work best with.
However the reason I like the two clubs I sent you links to is they have very nice floors/mats that help take the sting out of being thrown
Migoto Judo uses the same floor as Denver Judo http://www.judocalendar.com/denverdojo/Floorsystem.htm
Judo America uses something similar but using tires.
I also like Judo America cause he is moving more towards Free Style Judo and less Olympic style Judo. Also isn't bound by tradition.
However to get back to my first point go out and see each school see which coaches and environment you like the most. Your not going to end up with bad Judo at any of the schools here.

It seems like a lot of people here want to learn. I wonder why we don't have anything here yet.
