That's where the term "Assault Weapon" comes from, because an Assault Rifle is defined as having select fire. Interchangeable use of the two terms falls into the same category as conflating semi-automatic and fully automatic.

A horribly missleading and arbitrary phrase. Any objects ussed to "assault" can be an assault weapon.
