fighting a grappler question
a little over 3 weeks out and im a standup fighter, im fighting a a bjj guy with just a highschool wrestling backround. I feel confident im my gameplan and ive been working a lot of wrestling and getting up. No I am not looking to make any drastic changes by posting this im simply just looking for any last few week advice and or principles/tips when fighting a ground guy. Ive been working the obvious like keeping him on the end of my punches and assuming a more lower stance, also not standing infront of him. Anyone else have ANY kind of knowledge or something that works good for you to avoid the takedown and get the ko? Thank you
More of a mma question but as a fellow striker I'm sure yous can help!
How much on every one?
Size of both of you?
Experience and age of both?
Obiously you want to keep the fight up, enter with hard combos and leave before you are tied in the clinch
BUT MORE INFO PLEASE
Be agressive he needs to be backpedaling and spazzing out a bit.
I once posted something like this. Omega punched me in the face through the internet. I almost got 3rd place on that tournament due to that motivation. This was before I did anything MMA with only a month or so of hard Judo training on top of my l33t Hapkido-based striking skills. Even then I was very good at not getting taken down, but 1. everyone I went against were jujitsu guys and didn't really know wrestling 2. I still ended up on the ground in all of my 5 matches. Just warning you.
Develop your ground skills, maintain your stand-up skills, learn to transition between striking, clinching and grappling. I learned the hard way that being overly dependent on one set of skills may be your undoing.
Ignore my rant. Bottom line: Prepare for the takedown instead of trying to avoid it. If your stand-up game in on, work toward trying to come off the ground and get back to standing after the takedown.
I have a strong boxing background and also a few years a taekwondo so my standup is pretty versed. This is a amatuer fight at 155
