This laid-back steampunk just ordered his first straight razor. Ah the manly ritual of mixing basic morning grooming habits with a palsied knife-fight with one's own self-image!

I thought it was a great idea too- no more paying The Man for new razors! Then I tried it for a while and it was more difficult than I thought.

My hope is that, just like with martial arts, if I can force myself to practice for a couple weeks i'll settle into a routine of mild competence.

Tried a straight razor a few years back. Nowadays I part-time 'nutride' steampunk, but back then I was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society, and was all about 'being muy macho' and doing things the (snicker) 'cowboy way'. I just couldn't get a decent shave with one, So, I stick with a safety razor now. (it's getting harder and harder to find double-edges these days... *sigh*).

I use a safety razor as a compromise. I still have to buy blades, but they're $2 for a 5-pack.

They have a variety of stuff on VintageStraightRazor.com including safety razors. They might have what you're looking for.

Now this is some damn good advice. The razor that I bought was pretty expensive (although kind of lower end for a straight razor) but comes with free sharpening service, if I have the time to mail it in and wait for it to come back.

Closest shave possible. Never need to pay for replacement blades. Macho as hell.

What else could you want in a male grooming product?
