In my opinion the UFC has more to lose than they have to gain if MMA became an olympic sport. Right now, they control public perception of who the best fighters in the world are. When they start losing control of that perception through competition, they buy the threatening competitor.

If you start having gold medal olympians in MMA, people will expect the UFC to sign them. They'll feel pressure to do so to maintain the perception they have the best fighters in the world. This gives the fighters more negotiating power. Then they would have more Fedoresque headaches.

Pankration would be the ****. Hell I'd love to do that or Combat Sambo. Those would be more interesting than handball or ping pong.

An International organization would do a lot for how the sport grows worldwide, and the fighters could benefit from the backing of an international Fighters Union. Control (or lack of control) of these factors should be of interest to the UFC.

If any of those sports make it to the olympics, somebody tell me and I'll be ready for that ****. I now have the long term goal of becoming an olympian. Who is the oldest olympian in an athletic sport?

Do you really think the UFC is in favor of a fighter's union? Haha.

I have no doubt they're interested. Just like I'm interested in knowing where rattlesnakes are so I can avoid stepping on them.

Another vote for Combat Sambo. It "looks" Olympic, "feels" Olympic and is downright fucking awesome to watch.

Boris Johnson has personally thrown his hat into the ring for getting Pankration back into the games.
