2012 Olympic Boxing Thread

If there's a judo thread there really should be a boxing one too...

The draws are out soon and I'll post them up here as soon as I can.
You might not recognise many, or any, of the names, but Olympic boxing is a who's who of great fighters including, of course 'the greatest'. I don't follow pro boxing anywhere like I used to, let alone amateur, but just a few of the names of previous boxing Olympians are enough to get me excited about it all. (And I have tickets for the finals). Off the top of my head that includes Ali, Frasier, Roy Jones jnr, Amir Khan, de la Hoya, Holyfield and Leonard.

Also, for the first time there'll be women's boxing too. If you think you find it tough to train ... then you need to know about Mary Kom:

So I realised that it would be stupid to try and list all the matches here - there are loads of them, and it'd been difficult to keep track. Still, what I've managed to see so far has been really impressive.

Patriotically, Anthony Agogo looked good after a slow start in his fight. I also liked Ramirez from the USA- the score didn't really reflect the lead he had in the fight.
Amodar v Drasovic (?)was a fun scrap.

As there are so many fights and my knowledge of the fighters is so limited, I'd love to hear who you think is worth keeping an eye out for.

On a side note, Golden Boy and Showtime have already set a date to showcase the pro debuts of stand out Olympians.

I've thought about it; I'm not sure what you mean though. That was some shocking refereeing and the decision was rightly turned over.

In other news, Anthony Joshua looked pretty good. Seeded second and only started boxing 4 years ago. Hope for us all (if I was half my age, had any talent and built like a brick shithouse).

bummer that it is only for Americans...i wanted to watch.. they don't show nothing here about boxing. Maybe you guys can upload some fights? I don't care what weight any Olympic fights would be appreciated!

Sucks you can't watch it - there's been some good stuff, but the more I watch the more I'm puzzled by the scoring system. I've heard AIBA are looking at moving to something more akin to professional scoring - might be a good thing.

Agogo is through after just beating the world number 1. Fingers crossed.
Ramirez is out, despite a rousing last round which is a shame. It's not going well for the US.
And Evaldas Petrauskas is very entertaining to watch - a relentless ginger tank.

Yeah, I stopped watching Olympic boxing years ago because of the scoring.

That 6(?) knock down 10-10 scoring fiasco made me remember why I no longer bother.

Funny you should mention it, IiF, there seems to be much anger at the judging, the scoring and claims of farce abound.
