She must be training for the BJ events in 2016, they're being added with BJJ, BBJ, and Rugby.

I never thought about penalizing the opponent, as you said the techniques that caused the injuries were completely valid.

IIRC in IBJJF rulesets the referee can stop the fight when injuries happen, enforcing contestant safety even when they are willing to risk serious injury. I was kinda surprised that there's no such thing in Olympic Judo.

However I completely understand why the Romanian wanted to continue, it was the goddamn Olympics final after all.
Curiosity killed the cat. But damn it had a blast.

Just watched Gemma Howell get DQ'd. So why are leg grabs banned now?

Hilariously, because the IJF imagines it makes Judo better to watch.

More seriously, to differentiate Judo from wrestling and because shooting bad leg attacks was functional as a stalling tactic or to get out of unfavourable gripping situations given the lack of penalty for being on your belly. Doing bad forward throw attempts is still fine.

Does any other Olympic sport feel the need to DQ so many of its competitors?

Her own fault. She knows the rules and the Frog clearly did not have a Russian over the back grip.

No sympathy for professional athletes competing at the highest level to not know the rules, especially as they've had over 2 years to get used to them.

Wrestling this year seems to be... Invigorating.
