    Introduction...

    Hi everybody ,
My name is Joe and just came across this site by looking for Jeet Kune Do schools in my area (& to my wonderful surprise, Cuse is only 45 minutes away). I have never had a Sifu (unfortunately) & have studied by myself (sparring with friends & brother) since I was about 11-13 (probably younger - I had tons of Kung fu mags/books as a kid).
Most of my training/skill came from books, sparring & street/bar fights - most from the latter. I have always been a JKD man but I mostly (used to - been some years since I've been in a fight) employ BJJ in fights I've been in. In fact, I do the best when I'm on my back. Friends sarcastically nicknamed me Royce. Besides mostly using his techniques (but I know I'm not a pimple on his ass), I predicted him to win in virtually every fight he fought in early UFC/MMA.
Bruce Lee is my hero followed closely by Royce Gracie. I don't pretend to be some badass & I don't run my mouth, but I NEVER shy away (as I'm sure most here know, not backing down has deterred a good many fights; people who think they are tough-guys, in many cases, will back down when someone stands up to them & says WTF are you waiting for, let's get it on). I would certainly rather not fight & will try not to I'm most cases. The next time I'm in the area, I would love to check this place out. I'm looking forward to reading what others have to say on these forums.

Welcome to bullshido. Have you ever trained under an instructor? Or are you entirely self taught?

Welcome to Bullshido. I hope you can get some formal training in to support the skills you learned on your own.

    Welcome to Bullshido.

Sounds like you've never had an instructor? Well, I should hope (because it might say something about the quality of your school if you don't) that when you find a dojo you'll come to learn that you know absolutely nothing about martial arts.

Not saying you can't learn from watching, reading books, winging it in street fights etc.
Just saying that my BJJ school still, after two years of training in the art, makes me feel like I know absolutely fucking nothing about the martial arts when I get in and roll with the higher level guys. It's a good thing.
