In the one real fight I had, I punched a guy in the face hard enough to knock him down and my knuckles didn't even feel sore, much less broken. And if you do break your knuckles, so what? if you hit someone that hard, they're either unconscious, meaning you won, you only go for punches to the top of the skull, or you have osteoporosis.
This is BS; palm heels have 3" less range than punches, in a fight with no gloves, your hands (ie carpal bones) are likely to fracture. Sometimes a punch is worth it anyway, but a palm heel has less risk, and it's unlikely to affect your wrists, as you so claim.

Maybe take up something non-violent. Like flower aranging or male escort services.

    Just mi dos centavos.
Your cents lack sense. It's not your knuckles that break, it's your carpal bones, which are incredibly hard to toughen enough to prevent fracture, because of the forces involved. Read the other threat I commented on extensively regarding this issue...

I think it is either knuckles that will go or your wrist will bend.(that would have to be the carplals you mentioned)
Knuckles will also get cut and infected that is supposed to be an issue. But I have never heard of it actually happening.

If you dont hit with the heel of the palm. Say for some reason the guy moves and you hit with the top of your hand then you can bung your wrist. The other way is to hit their arm or forearm on the way in and can collect fingers.

I mean we could go straight to hedges fight and find out if anybody broke their hand. Lot of punches were thrown by all parties.

I'm totally taking the piss amigo.

Palm strikes have their place. I've even trained under a guy that almost exclusively used open handed strikes. He could knock the piss out of you with what appeared for all intents and pourposes to be a pimp slap. IIRC his style favored them because they easily transitioned into Dumog grapling techniques once your hand is on the vic. I.E., a hearty slap against the jaw / ear / upper neck would transition into a painful head control.

I have also totally suffered a "pugalisitc fracture" of the fifth meta carpal though not from fighting.

I guess over hands and hooks could naturally enough become open hand slaps. strait punches though should stay as such, you can bend your fingers bad.
By the way i practiced some palm strikes on a pear bag, and it hurts like a mother lover! i also was able to have a nice swelling on my palm, that took its time subsiding! ffs i need to use some discretion when reading the stuff here.

Maybe Estarlio can save this thread by focussing it.

What is the best kind of strike for getting away with hitting a kid that isn't even your own?

Hands don't always break, but they do more often than not. Also, I am not sure if Hedge was really going for the KO on those strikes (I can't tell based on the vid). However, I have broken my hand multiple times, in sparring, with MMA gloves on. It's common. Borking your wrist with a missed strike is less so, since most injuries to the wrist have to do with the angle of the fall, as well as the force of impact. It's a different scenario.

All I can say is that hurts way more to punch a heavy bag bear-knuckled than it does to do a palm heel strike, if you do it right.

As for straight punches, you have to pull your fingers back or you will jam them--just like you have to make a fist to punch, you know.
