Agreed, but Sonnen's coach sees it differently!
http://mmajunkie.com/news/29597/chae...er-in-dark.mmaChael Sonnen coach Scott McQuarry today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Anderson Silva's second-round TKO of Sonnen is "an injustice," and he plans to appeal the bout's official result.
"Obviously, there were minor infractions of grabbing shorts and greasing himself up," McQuarry said. "But the knee to the face ... I've looked at it from numerous angles. I can see where it hit his face. It did slide down to his chest. But that should be considered a no-contest.
"What I'm looking for is a rematch." -

Oy vay. I've seen every angle I could find, and the brunt of that impact landed to the sternum, not the god damn face. also vaseline? grabbing the shorts and the cage? These are weak points from a losing camp. Clearly this guy is delusional

He jumped into the knee and dropped it on his chest, had he done that to his face, he would be in the Emergency room, that was a LOT of force. Also, it's clearly apparent he braces his palm against the cage to lessen his lateral motion to better and more accurately drop the knee on Chael's chest. There is obviously no cage grabbing involved with the knee. Please McQuarry, embarrass yourself further by making this an official issue.
The only legit complaint is about the short grabbing, which albeit is strange, but Chael himself dismissed that as why he lost. Also, end all be all, the ref said it was legal, and it's his job to know what's legal and what isn't. It's McQuarry's to deal with his guy losing without throwing a temper tantrum. -

chael admitted grabbing andersons shorts. anderson also pointed out that chael was hitting the back of his head. There were also plenty of times in the first when anderson had chael bodylocked that Chael groped his hands into anderson's eyes.
mma is a young pseudo-sport and the rules and how they are enforced are allways changing and inconsistently enforced. At the same time all fighters know to defend themselves at all times.
I remember when I saw jones kicking and kneeing shogun while he was on fours and nearly spitting out my drink. That is the whole contradiction of the ufc. They market the ufc as "real fighting," a legitimate sport, and a spectacle intended to entertain those who attend.
at the end of the day ,if the ufc is going to arbitrarily evoke vale tudo, nhb, and self defense in order to discredit attack other combat sports, then the less artificial rules the better because too many people equate what they are seeing as a method to protect themselves on the streets. -
