Stopping power of swords.

I've heard that one of the things that makes knife fighting so dangerous (besides the fact that your knife fighting) is the knife's lack of stopping power. Were swords better incapacitating an opponent before he could hit back?

Sword strokes with proper technique and a proper sword would most definitely have "stopping power". Have you ever seen the Cold Steel meat cutting demos? Here's one starting at 3:35:

They've also done ones where the carcass is wrapped in layers like a T shirt and leather jacket, and they seem to go through those pretty easily too. Not sure how they would respond against real armor though. I assume that if armor was easy to cut through they wouldn't bother with it.

A good cut can sever a hand off, which is probably the best way to assure that they don't hit back.

Op,
By lack of stopping power, do you mean getting a eventually incapacitating or fatal blow that still gives opponent time to hurt you?

I have heard the stopping power discussed endlessly with guns but never knives.

Please clarify if not trolling.
