Ok you had hight and reach and with the guy you were fighting could have thrown the jab cross with impunity. This would have had had more effect than the leg kicks which you were not winning in the trade off.

Hopefully this could have also saved you being kicked a bit. As now he is threatened with eating punches to the head either as he kicks or directly after. He didn't like being hit. and flinched. (neither did you and you need to fix that)

I dont know many people who check kicks. Some kick specialists do but normally there is too much to learn and not enough time in the day to learn that as a specialised skill.

In simplest tems. Jab cross hook double leg. When it fails reset with punches rinse and repeat.

If you can bring the fight to your corner. then they can yell stuff at you. Helps when you are a bit new.

Hands up. This is kind of a tricky one. You are trying to get you head out of the way which was wrecking your composure. You can fight like this but you need good timing. I don't do it I need to make my blocking work for me.

so you kind of have two choices. You can be evasive and have loose hand that paw away punches. or tight and rely on your covering to protect you.

MMA covering is super tight. The small gloves leave heaps of gaps quite often you need to use answer the phone style blocking to actually stop combinations.

Flinching. The only thing that worked for me was getting in the ring and boxing hard untill I just didn,t give a **** any more. once there is could work on more technical defence.

That episode is a great example of just how unfit I was. I still am relatively unfit. Compare that to my opponent Francis, who was fit and athletic from word go - I'm pretty happy with how I went against him. I'd love to fight him again in a couple of years time when I'm closer to his level of fitness.

Just saw that Richie made some bullshit hand-waving excuses in the above video about why he let Francis in. When Ben was matched up, I had the same reaction many people did - what the **** is a former pro rugby player doing on a show called "Wimp 2 Warrior"?

Ben also tells me that Francis skipped a lot of the W2W training sessions to train at a different gym which produces quite a few relatively successful MMA fighters. I don't believe that's acceptable either.

I'm also Ben's older brother, and I know exactly how fucking lazy and inactive he was growing up. He has made no effort at physical development in his entire life before this show. He started this show at 1% of his physical potential, and he'll need a good couple of years to even begin getting near his full potential.

Having said all that, I've got nothing against Francis. He seems like a top bloke and I wish him all the best in his MMA career. He was given an opportunity and he took it.

And on the positive side, it gave Ben an even greater challenge. He knew he was being set up with a mismatch, yet still stepped up with one of the calmest attitudes I've seen before a fight. And I've cornered friends, students, watched my instructors and other people in my family fight in MMA. After losing he still had one of the best demeanours I've seen. IMO he's got the heart and potential to go as far as he wants.

Thanks bloke! I agree with everything you've said. My doulbe-leg is atrocious at the moment, but getting the fight to the ground is something I should work on for sure.

    Aw, shucks! Thanks bro.

I'll be back to as of tomorrow - I'm really excited about it actually. I've even done up a blog - the plan is to cover what I do each week tarining wise and post it up. The first post is a bit of a read, be warned.
