Teflon coated knifes

Hello all of you who know better,

It's about "teflon" coated fighting knives.

I am intrigued by those suddenly serious sounding stories and rumours I've heard that the fluoropolymer coating is applied on a combat blade for two main reasons:

1: Less friction than bare steel with body tissue, easier in, easier out even with some bones on the way.
2: Less neural "twitching" during the stab due to the fact that teflon coating is electrically insulating, wouldn't shortcut nerves into erratic muscle movement that much as with bare steel.

The very tip and the very edge of the knife would certainly be bare steel and sharp.

Honestly, how it is for real? I myself can't even guess.

We'll assume blood counts a lubricated environment. In such an environment steel has a friction coefficient of 0.16 and teflon has a friction coefficient of 0.04. What this means is that force against the forward movement due to friction on a teflon coated surface is four times less than untreated steel.

Now really... the force opposing the movement of the knife due to friction is pretty much negligible. Even with untreated steel.

We probably wouldn't need a neurologist to confirm that point 2 is total crap.

I would avoid the Teflon since it scratches off metal very easily. An exposed scratch can be worse for corrosion than an uncoated surface. Look at Teflon cookware after somebody cooks with metal utensils in it.

Just say no to teflon. As pointed out by mike321, it scratches off easily.

Additionally, if you're like me, you keep a keen edge on your knives. You don't want teflon loading up you sharpening stones/hones.

Who cares about 'twitching'? If you want to do some real damage you're going to pierce, twist and pull on the way out. Bone obstruction is another matter.

I know it sounds kind of evil, but we're taking life or death situations.

People have been stabbing and chopping each other for thousands of years without teflon. So I question the need for a teflon blade.
