FMA in the Warhammer 40K Universe

I'm amazed that 40K is still around. I played tabletop 40K as a teenager more than 20 years ago (****, I'm getting old). A group of about 6 of us were really into building the sets and painting the miniatures, etc. We had to houserule a lot of stuff for the games though--the rules were semi-broken. I think I still have my plastic marines somewhere.

I think I'd still like to play again.

The 40k scene in the UK is still pretty huge, but due to Games Workshop's evil pricing model and broken rules other, better games are thankfully making inroads.

While I was still playing at a club in Central London the split was about 1/3 40k/WFB and the rest other games (mostly Warmachine)

I've seen a couple of guys say that here. What makes you say they are broken?

I work for Games Workshop in retail btw - I just wanted to get that out there so if it comes up later it won't be a suprise or anything.

I haven't really played enough 40k myself to give you a detailed answer, but I've heard game balance and power creep brought up time and time again.

I feel for you working for GW in Australia though, with the great online retail debacle a little while ago.

Power creep has always been a big issue in 40K, at least since 2nd ed.

I heard a joke once.

I started with Gaunt's Ghosts: The Founding Omnibus from Abnet and that was bloody righteous. Someone told me to save Abnet's books for after you've read something bad. So I went with that and still haven't read any of Abnet's other books.

I just finished the Word Bearers Omnibus & that was a nice, long read about a specific "traitor" Marine legion. Just full of back-stabby sneaky-sneak goodness.

Just started reading the Ciaphas Cain, Hero of the Imperium Omnibus and it's quite different because of the humor. Supposedly in the 41 century there is nothing to laugh about.

The 40k models are very good, but gw's pricing is fucking punative.

With stuff like war machine, dwarf wars, kromlech, et al at least you can get great models elswhere now.

Of course if you do that you aren't allowed to play in GW tournaments.
