    He did what he had to do in order to make the threat not a threat. The **** that he can't do in Newport will all come down to how well his written report reflects what happened, what he was feeling, and why. This is a reason that I stress weapon retention as a big part of defensive tactics.

    Sounds like your friend was thrust into having to react because of bad timing; it happens.

    People confuse rightful use of force with a particular weapon. If you are justified in using deadly force it doesn't make a legal difference if you use a gun or a rock.
