Whatever name Asia actually goes by now does have a point that it's considered the same level of violence under the law, at least in many places.

But, I think there is a certain amount of responsibility in knowing that you can do much, much more damage to someone than they can do to you.

If I was in a situation against anyone where I was technically assaulted but I knew that the person doing it could not possibly harm me unless they left and came back with a more effective weapon (someone like a significantly smaller, untrained woman, child, or man with some obvious handicap) I would not go directly into fucking their **** up, even if I think someone more dangerous would have it coming for the exact same action.

True, but I've been to places that make the above event sound like high tea. If you don't have express permission to get involved, you stay out, and there's never any trouble. If things head south, apologize and GTFO (at least from where the incident/affected people are).

Legal issues are one thing, on a practical level, decking a girl in a venue like this could easily result in massive beat down or death.
