    Xarmydis,

    What is your name?

I will contact my Shifu and let him know that you are interested in coming to the school in Arlington and wanting more information.

Actually it is better if you did not study another Baguazhang style as I had done, it caused problems until I trained the other material out of my system.

There are six steps of training:

    Sit
    Stand
    Shift
    Walk
    Circle
    Apply

You can call and speak to Mike Leach, who is the office manager at the Gompa.

I've found it. I didn't think I would, but I found the place for me (hard to find too!)

    http://www.hebeiwushu.com/

They teach like 10 different chinese martial arts, which is somewhat of a red flag (teaching so many), but here's what I DO like.

Guy told me I could go to 2 bagua lessons for free, a trial run in the normal class. They do tournaments, they have page for it. (The page that warned about mcdojo's on this site said that places that avoid tournaments can be kinda sketchy). Their schedule specifically has time for kids, diving up kids and adults.

As far as pricing goes, 4 classes a month (one class a week) $60, and the price goes up accordingly from there, but the highest is 4 classes per week, is like $120 a month. That's ridiculously cheap. They have a uniform and a weapon for purchase, the uniform is like $60 for the shoes, pants and shirt or something, and the staff and fan are like $35 (though I have no use for them). I'm going tonight for my first free lesson! I'll report back how it goes. I still want to check out the Gompa though, I've heard some good things.

What? 120 is cheap for 4 classes a month? I guess.

You do understand the difference between Modern Wushu and let's say Sanda or Sanshou right?

If you click the link it is competition outside of their org. I'm talking about his needs vs. that webpage.

Not quite. 4 classes a WEEK. Or so the website claims. 4 a week, $120 for a month. That's not 4 classes a month.

And alas, I do not know the difference :-/

Modern Wushu or sometimes just Wushu is basically gymnastics based kung fu. There is no martial application and you are judged on your speed, perfect stances, acrobatics, and posing.

Everything on their website appears to be modern wushu. The competitions he won appear to be modern wushu.
    This is modern wushu:

There is no Self Defense application to this or any Modern Wushu form. Unless they have a Sanshou/Sanda, sparring, or LeiTai class this is a performance based school. Looking at their schedule all I see is push hands once a week.

Kung Fu schools should train to compete in these or at least spar on a regular basis.

    Sanshou/Sanda:

    LeiTai:
